What is Complementary Medicine?
Complementary Medicine includes many forms of treatments and therapies that are not considered part of conventional medicine. Complementary Medicine focuses on “building blocks for health” such as prevention and addressing the underlying cause of a disease, rather than simply treating the external symptoms. It teaches people to alter their responses to the stresses of daily life through self-care, a healthy diet and various manual and energy therapies.
GHC-SCW’s Commitment
GHC-SCW is committed to the greatest health of its members and of the community. GHC-SCW understands that health is not the mere absence of disease, but rather a dynamic balance reflecting the innate intelligence of the body. GHC-SCW’s goal is to foster wellness in our members by encouraging the exploration of the connections between mind, body and spirit, knowing that improving health on any one of these levels enhances the health of the whole person.
GHC-SCW practitioners work together to offer therapies and lifestyle counseling designed to integrate these areas of health. We look forward to working with you as a partner in your health care, understanding that we may serve as guides and companions as you deepen your own commitment to self-care. Through this partnership, we believe that it is possible to achieve meaningful and lasting changes to your health.
Who Can Benefit from Complementary Medicine?
Anyone can benefit from incorporating Complementary Medicine and wellness practices into their self-care regimen. Patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, headaches, fatigue, cancer, and multiple medical problems often find these treatments helpful. Anyone simply interested in feeling better and improving long-term health can benefit too. Finally, Complementary Medicine therapies are extremely beneficial as part of a total stress management program.
Integrating Primary Care
GHC-SCW’s goal is to integrate Complementary Medicine into your current traditional health care program. Complementary Medicine practitioners will work in conjunction with your Primary Care Practitioner (PCP) or specialist(s) to develop a treatment plan that will meet your needs.
A referral is not necessary from your PCP in order to receive Complementary Medicine services. You may confer with your PCP throughout the course of your Complementary Medicine treatment.GHC-SCW Coverage
